Traditional Thai massage is a traditional and old way of healing that combines broad and targeted acupressure stimulation and manipulation of the energy line called sen, and assisted yoga postures. The effects of treatment improve when the patient is completely relaxed and breathing heavily.
The traditional Thai massage hardly ever uses oils or lotions and the person remains clothed during the treatment. There is a body contact between the practitioner and the customer. The body is compressed, stretched and rocked to clear all the energy blockages and release the tension. The complete effect makes the body feel relaxed, rejuvenated and physical and mental well being.
What Happens During A Traditional Thai Massage?
You lie down on a mat on the floor. The practitioner uses thumbs, palms, forearms, elbows, feet knees and shins to press and stretch the body. Thais believe in the fact that good health and freedom from pain is a result from the unhindered flow of important energies through the body’s tissues.
Pressing is the mechanical method used to stimulate the energy flow in the Sen and to release blockages which result in pain. This portion of the massage is very thorough. Every Sen Channel is pressed over and over again in every direction, with the relative positions of the limbs and trunk being changed constantly. The process is thorough. When the practitioner is happy that the soft tissues have been pressed adequately, the stretching begins. The Thai massage is known to be done in an elegant manner and on a large scale. All the muscles and joints are treated.
What Does A Thai Massage Do?
Thais have understood long ago that most muscular skeletal pain and lack of mobility of the joints is the result of the muscles shortening under the impact of recurring skin. The pressing methods of the Thai massage prepare the muscles for stretching by increasing their permeability to the flow of the Sen Energies.
The manipulations are crafted to stretch the muscles a little more than would be possible without help. Tension and spasm in a muscle are the results of a vicious circle of events that involve the muscles and the sense organs. Advanced yoga can’t compete with the stretching capabilities of Thai massage when applied by a professional.
The normal Thai massage stretches the muscles back to their normal resting length which forces the brain to think that all is well and it stops hinders the antagonists.
